Surfing originated in Hawaii. After George Freeth in 1907, and Duke Kahanamoku in the 1920s, surfing culture in California grew. Jack O’Neill initiated the first commercial enterprise with a surf shop business in 1952.

Duke Kahanamoku brought surfing to  Australia in 1915. Billabong, Rip Curl and Quiksilver were born in Australia. Brands like Mambo, Ocean and Earth, Insight, and Rhythm thrived, Hot Tuna, and Piping Hot, diminished.

O’Neill, a pioneer, founded in 1952 is No. 1 maker of wetsuits in the world. O’Neill opened the world’s first surf shop in San Francisco. Impassioned with surfing, the innovative O’Neill developed the first surfboard leash, the first board bag, the first surf boot and more, as well as the term ‘Surf Shop’.

Hansen Surfboards (1961) has led the way in surfboard production, surf and fashion retail for years.  Select surfboards, boardshorts, surf clothing, wetsuits, sandals etc.  Hansen’s has everything you need to keep you looking and feeling coastal cool. Hansen’s prides itself on selling fun!

Rip Curl (1969) is for, and about, the crew on The Search. Their products, events, team-riders and people they reach globally, are all part of the Rip Curl Search. The Search is the driving force behind their progress and vision. They’ve been the market leaders in surfing wetsuits for over 30 years.

Billabong: (1973) Maroubra surfer Gordon Merchant embraced the Aussie surfing lifestyle in the late ’60s and early ’70s. He found a 20-mile stretch of ‘golden beach,’ and made the Gold Coast his home. He developed surfboards with a tucked-under edge, that helped make surfing champions.

Vans: (1966) The name House of Vans was coined in the early 70s. Long known as the leader in action sports footwear, Vans celebrated 50 years of “Off The Wall” heritage in 2016. Vans Classic Slip-Ons gained international attention when worn by Sean Penn in ‘Fast Times at Ridgemont High’.

Volcom (1991) creates products for the persistent who are true to their passions.
